Our Passion |
pdoink is pleased to introduce our food4thought initiative, which is dedicated to supporting the mind, body and spirit of children. To this end, pdoink will direct four per cent of all of our net profits towards education, nutrition and health and mentorship for children. This is something we do happily to give back to local communities to help create stronger, healthier places for children and families to develop. Please take a moment to see some of the partners and programs we've launched this year below - and if you still have a gift to purchase for a little one this holiday season - please consider buying from shop.pdoink.com - your gift will go further, we promise!
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help make a difference.
Moorelands Community Services, Dec 6, 2011
We donated 50 books to Moorelands Christmas Sharing Program, in which they create Holiday packages for 250 families in the GTA. We are also doing a promotion in which every book purchase over the holidays will be matched by a donation to Moorelands for their programming in 2012 - their 100th anniversary year. When you make a purchase at shop.pdoink.com you are helping a family that could benefit from your generosity.
Established in 1912, Moorelands Community Services works with more than 1,500 Toronto children and youth affected by poverty, providing them with strong role models and positive and fun experiences that build confidence and character. Empire Communities - Community Building Program, Fall 2011
In conjunction with Empire Communities we have launched Community based reading and activity programming in the Fall of 2011. In October, we read to over 250 children at St. Matthew Elementary School in Binbrook and donated on Empire Communities behalf over 40 sets of our first three titles. This work has continued through the fall with reading events and book giveaways in their communities in Binbrook, Breslau and Brantford.
As part of their Christmas drive at work - they are donating food and gifts to the Vaughan Food Bank and in addition to the work and programming this fall we have donated 100 books to the Christmas drive so provide for families in need.
Big Brothers and Big Sisters of South Niagara, Sept 10, 2011
Working with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of South Niagara - we donated 50 sets of our first three books for their In-School Mentoring program.
A fun rewarding program, In-School Mentoring matches an adult volunteer (Mentor) with a child (Mentee) in a school environment. Building a positive new friendship strengthens a Mentee's self-esteem and school performance. This program is a co-operative effort between the District School Board of Niagara, the Niagara Catholic District School Board and Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Niagara.
In school mentoring is a modern way of delivering this traditional program. It is based on the one-to-one Mentor/Mentee relationship, but minimizes the time commitment of the volunteer.
SickKids Hospital (Toronto) - February 21, 2011
Our first project was linked to our launch in December, where we asked our friends and family to support our budding dream of pdoink, and in return we would share our success back with the community. As a result of your generosity during the holiday season, we were able to donate 100 books to SickKids Hospital. The books were used as gifts for children on Family Day, Monday February 21, 2011. We provided SickKids with 50 copies of The Big Tale of the Not-So-Tidy Whale and 50 copies of our newly printed The Colorful Tale of the Creative Crayon that had just been printed that week. Thank-you to everyone for their support and help!
As a result, we've decided to continue our efforts with our official retail launch that happened this April. A few weeks back, we managed to get into Indigo and Chapters stores across Canada and we can now be found "coast to coast". In keeping with our optimism and the fun we had in supporting SickKids the last time around - we are continuing with our donation efforts to SickKids and sharing our stories with everyone we can. As you support us, we will continue to support SickKids and other organizations that help those around them in their communities.
